Career and technical education reform bill enacted into law

Congress approved a final version of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (H.R. 2353), a bill supported by NRCA to reform career and technical education (CTE) and ultimately help employers address future workforce needs. Passage came after months of negotiations among key lawmakers to resolve remaining policy disagreements regarding the best methods of improving CTE. NRCA made passage of H.R. 2353 a key focus of Roofing Day in D.C. 2018 in March. Approval of the bill helps demonstrate how the roofing industry can make a difference in Washington, D.C., by speaking with a unified voice on Capitol Hill. President Trump signed the legislation into law July 31. NRCA commends Congress for coming together and working in a bipartisan manner to approve this legislation, which will expand and improve future workforce development opportunities for the roofing industry, and wants to commend Reps. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) and Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) for their strong leadership regarding this issue.
