Legislation to expand workforce training incentives

Members of Congress continue working on legislation to reform the Higher Education Act, which provides funding for student financial aid for postsecondary education. As part of this effort, NRCA is working in support of the Jumpstart Our Businesses by Supporting Students Act (S. 839) for inclusion in a larger HEA reform bill. This bipartisan legislation would extend eligibility for Pell Grants—which are awarded to low-income students who pursue four-year college degrees—to students engaged in short-term workforce training programs. This would provide more students with access to the types of training programs now being developed within the roofing industry. Additionally, companion legislation to the Senate bill was recently introduced in the House by Reps. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) and Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio).
